Natalya Goncharova is a highly trained classical concert pianist.

She holds a Master’s degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the former Soviet Union and a Master’s degree in Music Education from the United States.

She offers private piano lessons at her studio that is located in Lincoln, Rhode Island for students of all levels and ages.

She uses traditional Russian methods of piano teaching combined with the best American methods and materials available. Her lessons are for students who are serious and dedicated to studying piano. She teaches how to:

- read music and understand musical concepts
- develop quality piano skills and techniques
- feel, express, and interpret musical compositions

Not only does Natalya develop piano and musical skills through her teaching, but she also calls upon her Master’s degree in education to awaken the students’ imagination by offering a historical context for the studied compositions, the composers, and their cultural influences.

Her students perform at formal recitals a number of times throughout the year where they demonstrate their progress. The best students participate in piano competitions, rating festivals and other musical events. Student recitals are free and open to the public.

Natalya co-authored two children's books on music entitled Musictionary. Her books are wonderfully illustrated dictionaries of music terms and instruments, and are in stores across the United States.

Natalya’s Statement

Teaching piano is a lifetime work, which I have been enjoying since my graduation from The University of Arts. Over the past 20+ years of my teaching career, I have had students of different ages, levels, abilities, cultures, and nationalities. I have learned and discovered that no matter what the students’ background is, it is up to me to inspire students, make the lessons enjoyable, and awaken each student’s interest in playing piano.

Throughout the years I have observed different generations of students and raised a number of little pianists. Some of them started with me as early as 4 years old and stayed with me until college (and some even throughout college). It is a real joy for me to see them grow musically, intellectually, and to mature as individuals.

As a piano teacher, I know that every student is unique. From the first lessons, I try to tailor my curriculum to meet their individual musical needs, establish contact, and build a good relationship with every student. I strongly feel the need to reach every one of them. What I do for all of my students as part of their piano development is give them encouragement and support, while constantly pursuing the highest quality of piano playing. We organize charity concerts, holiday concerts, piano parties, and we perform together. Those students who are advanced performers are encouraged to participate in piano competitions, rating festivals and other professional events (both classical and jazz). Just last year, two of my junior students received the superior ratings in the All-State Classical piano festival, and another advanced student took first place in the All-State Jazz ensemble competition.

I have a number of students who became professional musicians and piano teachers, as well as a number of students who chose music as their minor. My students make me very proud and make my professional life meaningful.
